Bij het bestuderen van de heersende winden en zeestromen, ontdekten wij dat de Carieben een fuik zijn, van waaruit je niet naar Brazilië kunt. En omdat dat land te mooi is om te missen, veranderen de plannen. De oversteek gaat van de Canaries naar Recife. Dat is zelfs nog iets korter. Ger zegt dat de windstiltes op die route het smalst zijn en je komt zo het snelst in de ZO-passaat. Orkanen zijn er beneden 6 graden NB ook niet.

Wij beseffen dat het voor Carieben-vlassers een schok is. Dat was het voor ons ook. Maar de kenners beweren dat Brazilië leuker is. In de planning heb ik aangenomen dat de bemanning niet drost. Maar als iemand onder de nieuwe omstandigheden afhaakt, hebben wij daar natuurlijk begrip voor. Laat het wel z.s.m. weten. Misschien zijn er anderen die juist nu wel willen aanmonsteren? Ter zijde: Bescheiden bemanning in spe, meld je zelf aan, wij kunnen niet over jullie tijd beschikken. Specificeer de periode, liefst niet veel korter dan een maand, tenzij je het schip al kent.

While studying prevailing winds and currents, we discovered the Caribbean to be a trap from which it is virtually impossible to sail to Brazil. And because that area is too beautiful to miss, we are changing our plans. We shall cross from the Canaries to Recife. That is even slightly shorter. Ger said that the doldrums are narrowest on that old sailing route. We'll be soon in the SE Trades. Below 6 degrees N there are never hurricanes. We realize that to Caribbean-lovers this comes like a blow. It was one for us. But knowledgeable people tell us that Brazil is even nicer. I assumed in the planning that the enlisted crew does not quit, but if they feel otherwise, we shall understand. Please do inform us right away. Perhaps there are others, who see this as an opportunity to register?

Please note, modest crew to be, you have to register yourself. We cannot rule over your schedule. Specify period, preferably not much shorter than one month, unless you know ANANDA already.

De Windpilot is aangekomen en de werf be-looft nu haast te gaan maken. Wij hopen op stapelloop rond 15 april .

Er is een Achilles bijboot besteld, die goed UV-bestendig schijnt te zijn. Een 4 pk Yamaha 2-takt moet ons van roeien ontheffen.

De schipper deed het examen Marcom-B.Hij verkreeg ook een bewijs dat hij geen vaarbewijs nodig heeft. Mooi toch die regels.

Wij gingen naar een 'vertrekkersbijeenkomst' van het blad Zeilen. Het was heel leuk en we kregen dozijnen tips.

Toevallig ontdekten wij bij verzending van de Maart-a Nieuwsbrief dat de email niet alle aangeklikte adressen overnam. Wie een maand mist: PAN PAN PAN.

Van de met * gemerkte bemanning in spe kregen wij nog geen bericht dat ze op de lijst willen blijven.

Switching the Carribean for Brazil did not cause crew to quit. Only Frans & Zwaantje doubt whether that region is suitable to begin a new millenium. Dutch nationals do not need a visa for Brazil if they stay less than 6 months.

BUT EVERYBODY SHOULD THINK OF INJECTIONS!

The Windpilot arrived. The yard promises to speed up the work. We hope she will take the water around April 15.

We ordered an Achilles dinghy. It has the best UV resistance, they say. A 4 hp Yamaha two-stroke should relieve us from rowing. The skipper did his second radio exam. He also obtained a license permitting not to have a license. Nice those rules.

We attended to a gathering of boatpeople who intend to leave this year. That was fun. We received dozens of good hints.
